For the Love of Toads

We have always had an abundance of little toadies around the house; toadies that Ethan likes so very much to find and hold. But this spring, we just hadn't been seeing them and only finding one every now and then. Where oh where were our little friends?!

Yes, they are on my kitchen table!
This big mystery was solved when one day while weed eating, Jon spotted a big black snake slithering out from under our deck! Yikes! He was the reason! The reason why the toads were all gone and, I suspect, the reason my little bluebirds' eggs kept disappearing from their nest.

The snake got away that day but one night last week, Jon came in the house a little out of breath. He had come face to face with the snake lying out by our shed. No doubt looking for our toads who enjoy catching bugs out under the light. Let's just say, Jon got him good and that's the end of that!

Ethan likes his reptile book from the library.

Would you believe within two days, we found five fat toadies. Ethan was so happy! And now each morning when we get up, first thing we check for toadies in our special spots and to a little boy's delight there is always one to join us for breakfast!

These two little guys are always around. I guess they like the air conditioning!
